About Scotty'sMy name is Lillian Lanz. I was born in Quito, Equador. I came to this country in 1973 after I graduated from High School. I lived in New York City where I attended college. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree from Baruch College. After I got married, I moved to Connecticut with my husband Michael, who is very loving and supportive. Together we started a family. We have two wonderful sons. Our first son’s name is Scott. He graduated from Babson College with a degree in Business Administration and Finance. He now works for Merryl Lynch as a Financial Advisor. Our second son’s name is Steven. He graduated from the Military Academy at West Point New York. Today, Steven is a Civil Engineer and an Officer in the United States Army. After Scott was born, he attended a daycare. After a few months, the center closed and I was unable to find another daycare that met my expectations. ~ It was then I decided to open my own daycare. ~ I had to change careers so I went back to school and obtained my Child Development Associate Credentials from Capitol Community College in Hartford, Ct. In 1984 I opened Scotty’s Kiddy Korner Day Care, a home based program licensed for six children (infants to school age). Scotty’s Kiddy Korner is named after my oldest son Scott because he is the first born (and I didn’t know at the time that a year and a half later Steven would be born). After several years I expanded to a Group Day Care Home licensed for eleven children (all ages). In 1992, Scotty’s moved to a facility away from my home, licensed for 54 children (ages 6wks to 13 yrs). And finally, Scotty’s moved again to where we are now. We are located in a larger facility accommodating 85 children (ages 6wks to 13yrs). I do not have enough words to express my feelings toward children. It is a wonderful experience to see these children grow physically, mentally, and socially, knowing that what I impart to them contributes to help form their lives, understand the world around them, and acquire a feeling of competence. I would like to share a question that some parents and children have asked of me. “Why are you so dressed up”? I tell them that they are very important clients to me and that I believe my appearance and the Center’s appearance should be neat and clean. I believe that the way you present yourself to the children tells them how important they are and that you care. My goal for the future is to continue and maintain a loving, caring, and nurturing environment where the children feel calm, socially accepted, and ready to focus on the more difficult task of learning. -Lillian Lanz |
